Examination Schedule

 

Valid ID is required to take an exam. A Photo ID is preferred.

Testing is offered on easy to use touch screen computers. Applicants are allowed at least 90 minutes to answer the questions on automated tests. On tests with a larger number of questions or more complex questions (Human Resources Assistant & Associate; Data Processing Specialist & Administrative Specialist; Insurance Analyst II; Revenue Tax Specialist Trainee), more time is allowed to complete the exam.

Public use copiers are not available at the Assessment Centers. Therefore, it is important that applicants bring with them copies of their application for each title and test option for which they want to test.

Note:  State offices will be closed on the following days in 2014:  January 1, January 20, February 12, February 17, May 26, July 4, September 1, October 13, November 4, November 11, November 27, November 28, December 25.

Special Notice: The CMS Assessment Centers will be undergoing upgrades to computer equipment over the next few months to better serve applicants for state position titles. These upgrades will necessitate shutting down automated testing for titles for a short period of time at each assessment center to permit the installation and testing of new equipment. Please note that, during the upgrades, each center will remain open to the public but no tests will be administered. Automated tests will not be administered during the time periods specified below for each assessment center:

          Marion:        Monday September 8 through Thursday September 11
          Rockford:     Monday September 22 through Wednesday September 24
          Chicago:       Monday October 20 through Friday October 24

This schedule is tentative and subject to change so applicants are strongly advised to check the Examination Schedule page on the website or call the assessment center before traveling to an assessment center for testing.

Regular office Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. See below for specific testing check-in times at each test site.

Examinations may be canceled or limited to certain localities without notice as hiring needs are met.

Unattended Children - To promote safety and security and to assure that testing standards are met, children may not accompany parents or caretakers in the test room during testing. Please review the details of our Unattended Children Policy.

Applications for the Juvenile Justice Specialist Intern title must be submitted to the Department of Juvenile Justice, Executive Offices, Attn: Lisa Steiner/Jeffrey J. Applications for the Correctional Officer Trainee title must be submitted to the Department of Corrections, Public Safety Shared Services, 1301 Concordia Court, Springfield, IL 62794-9277, (217) 557-6010. Applications for the Mental Health Technician Trainee title must be submitted to the Department of Human Services, Technician Selection Program, 100 South Grand Avenue East (Lower Level), Springfield, IL 62762, (217) 524-1548. Career Services

The employment counselor will suggest and describe job titles after a review of your application and discussion of your education and work experiences. A comprehensive counseling session is available by appointment in all test locations. Proof of Military Service

Proof of military service, if claimed for additional points added to a passing grade, must be submitted at the time of examination. Applicants submitting proof of military service after the examination will be awarded veterans preference upon verification of the documentation.
